I have been a self confessed model railway nutter and Märklin fanatic for many years now and mainly self taught. If it wasn't for this fanaticism I guess I never would have started out servicing model railway engines (and rolling stock).

A few years back I decided I should utilise my model train repairs experience by helping others keep their rollingstock running like they ought to, and now that I am retired, it seems like an interesting way of trying to prevent the hobby from being too much of a drain on the household finances.   I have clients from just about every part of New Zealand, a few from Australia, and even some from the opposite side of the globe (about as far away from NZ as one can get.)
